Fish oil is known as the major source of omega 3 fatty acids because of its DHA and EPA contents. We all know how beneficial omega 3 is to our health but the question is, do you know the right fish oil dosage that will be effective and at the same time not cause any health problem for you? It is important to note that the dosage is determined by the amount omega 3 fatty acids in the supplements you are taking.

There isn't yet a general agreement on the recommended amount of fish fatty acids to be consumed in a day; hence what we have are suggested dosages. Fish oil is a natural substance and not a chemical, so it is generally believed that it does not have any serious side if it is fresh and molecularly distilled to remove its contaminants.

It works like aspirin, therefore those that are taking other forms of blood thinner should not take high doses so as to avoid bleeding. In fact it is advisable for you to consult your doctor before taking omega 3 supplementation if you are taking any blood thinning medication.

The suggested fish oil dosage for healthy persons without any health condition is 2000mg per day; however some people even get good results by consuming only 1000mg. Those that suffer from severe depression or Crohn's disease can take up to 6000mg per day.

The common side effects of fishoil are 'burping' (after taste) and diarrhea; if the oil is fresh, it will not give you burps and if you experience diarrhea, then you need to reduce the dose.

Taking the right fish oil dosage have many health benefits; that is why even conventional medical practitioners now recommend regular consumption of of omega 3 fatty acids either by eating fish or by supplementation.
